A Couple Cooks Holiday Gift Guide
Happy Holidays! This year we’ve put together a little holiday gift guide. Of course, our favorite gift idea for the season is our soon to be released cookbook, Pretty Simple Cooking! The book tells the story of our journey from eating fast and frozen food to cooking every day. It’s full of 100 vegetarian recipes, with a focus on simple and creative. It also features our 10 lessons for making cooking a part of your everyday, each beautifully illustrated by Ashley Rodriguez. It’s part real food eaters manual, part beautiful coffee table book. If you purchase as a gift, download the holiday version of the cover and wrap it up! Books will arrive February 6. Here’s our gift guide—let us know if anything strikes your fancy!
For book lovers… Pretty Simple Cooking is perfect for the home cook in your life or anyone who wants to cook more! Other cookbooks we love: Vegetarian Heartland, a Midwest-focused seasonal book with beautiful photography by Indiana author Shelly Westerhausen, or Love Real Food, a vegetarian cookbook with a focus on simple, beautiful food by Kathryn Taylor (both on our podcast). Chasing Slow is a lovely contemplative book on slowing down and focusing on what matters by Indiana author Erin Loechner, and The Magic of Motherhood is a compilation of essays on motherhood by Ashley Gadd.

Our best kitchen tools… We make coffee in our Chemex every single day; pair it with our kitchen scale and teapot for the perfect gift trio (tutorial post coming soon). For the pizza lover in your life, a pizza peel and pizza stone are essential (Pretty Simple Cooking has all our secrets to the best homemade pizza). A food processor makes all things possible: hummus, sauces, and mini cheesecakes. To go with a Netflix binge, this air popper makes perfect popcorn—just add butter and salt. For a splurge, this Uuni pizza oven is the BEST thing we’ve found to make incredible pizza at home: it gets up to 1000 degrees in just 10 minutes!
These breads from Hot Bread Kitchen are tasty and made by immigrant women in NYC (their founder was on our podcast); each purchase supports their baking programs. Fancy chocolate is always #1 in our book: Vosges is incredible and started by an Indiana native. This Toms coffee is tasty and for each bag of coffee, Toms gives one week of clean water to a person in need.
For the littles… After posting our hijinks with this wearable bear blanket on our Instagram Stories, we got lots of inquiries—it’s endless fun! Gotta Go Buffalo is a large lift-the-flap book that’s beautiful and sweet. These stainless steel glasses are a stylish version of the sippy cup. And what little one doesn’t need a stuffed narwhal? Larson just got one and loves it.
Miscellaneous fun… This mirrorless camera from Sony is what we use for photos of Larson and what we take on the road: it’s light and easy to use, like a cross between an SLR and a phone camera. It also wirelessly sends photos to our phones, which is perfect for posting on social media. We use this cozy UGG blanket for Larson’s playtime, taking him on winter walks in the stroller, and snuggling for Netflix binges. And our new favorite plant: Monstera! Pair it with a watering can and plant food for a perfect gift (tutorial post coming soon).
